The year was 1761. And although the area was virtually unsettled at the time, papers were signed that gave birth to the town of Middlebury, Vermont. Local celebrations of this historic event will culminate in a party at Town Hall Theater on November 4 - 250 years, to the day, after the signing of the town charter. Doors open at 5:00 pm so people can view the special history quilt created by students from Mary Hogan School. The presentation begins at 5:30 pm, with Ken Perine as the emcee.

The lively event will feature a talk about the real history of the signing by Middlebury College professor Jan Albers, and a film featuring local people talking about their feelings for their town, created just for the event by Middlebury Community Television. There will be music and humor and surprises. At the end of the presentations, cake will be served, donated by the Waybury Inn.

To top it off, at the end of the event everyone will march down South Pleasant Street, led by the Seth Warner Fife & Drum Corps. Cross Street Bridge will be cleared-- the perfect place to watch a grand fireworks display.

The Middlebury 250th Celebration Party will be held at Town Hall Theater on Friday, November 4. The event is free, and everyone is welcome. Doors open at 5 pm, and the event begins at 5:30 pm.
The fireworks display is scheduled to begin around 6:30 pm. Best viewing will be from the Cross Street Bridge, which will be closed to traffic.
