To celebrate its 50th anniversary, The National Theatre presents National Theatre: 50 Years on Stage, bringing together the best British actors for a unique evening of unforgettable performances, broadcast live from London to theatres and cinemas around the world.
Middlebury's Town Hall Theater will show the event twice on Saturday, November 2, with a live-as-it-is-happening broadcast at 4:45 and an encore at 8 pm.
Appearing on stage in this once-in-a-lifetime event, directed by The National Theatre's current Director Nicholas Hytner, will be some of the most famous and accomplished actors of our time: Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Helen Mirren, Maggie Smith, Derek Jacobi, Penelope Wilton, and Rory Kinnear, with more to be announced.
Covering iconic productions from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead to The History Boys, from Antony and Cleopatra to Angels in America, from Guys and Dolls to London Road, this will be a thrilling evening of live performance and rare glimpses from the archive, bringing the history of The National Theatre to a cinema near you.
"This will be nothing less than a history of the last five decades of theatre in the English-speaking world," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "It's hard to imagine all of this acting talent and playwriting talent in a single performance. It will be one of the most thrilling things we've ever presented at THT."
