A musical group that defies categorization, Woods Tea Co. performs bluegrass, Celtic tunes, sea chanties, and folk songs with an equal ease and skill. The Vermont-based group employs as many as a dozen different instruments from banjos, bezoukis and bodhrans, guitars and tin whistles.

The award winning band, which has been featured at Lincoln Center, The Chautauqua Institute, and on National Public Radio, will play Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, March 26.

Folk Music Quarterly says "sidestepping pretension and going for the grit, this New England group gives a lusty performance, every time." A few years ago, the Irish Heritage Foundation honored the group with their "Outstanding Innovation Award, in appreciation and recognition for their creative contributions to Irish music."

Middlebury favorite Patti Casey has recently joined the group. Seen here recently in "Woody Guthrie's American Song" and with the Bluegrass Gospel Project, she becomes the seventh permanent member of the Woods Tea Co. Patti has appeared live on "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor, and was a winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at the legendary Merlefest in Wilkesboro,
