Town Hall Theater Offers Fall Arts Classes

Middlebury's Town Hall Theater is offering an expanded slate of classes that will bring the performing arts - and much more - to people of all ages.
"A lot of people don't know about the Byers Studio on the lower level of the theater, which is perfect for all kinds of classes," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. This season the theater will offer 12 different classes, starting on September 8.
Dance is very strongly represented, with tap dancing for all ages taught by Kathleen Smith, dance in the classic tradition taught by Patty Smith, and this year, for the first time, dance traditions from across the globe: African dance and drumming taught by Soriba Simbo Camara, and Irish Dance offered by Beth Anne McFadden, who runs the popular McFadden Academy for Irish Dance in South Burlington.
Offerings in Mind-Body disciplines include Tai Chi Chuan, Meditation, Nia Technique, and Yoga.
The instructors are local professionals. "This is another way that THT can support local performers," says Anderson. "We keep a small rental fee, but most of the fees go directly to the teachers."
