Maiden Vermont, Middlebury's own women's barbershop chorus, will present a heartwarming holiday concert on Friday, December 11, at 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Town Hall Theater. They will perform holiday favorites old and new, with catchy choreography and great good cheer.
A special guest appearing with the chorus this year is soprano Debra Lynn, a recent arrival from Maui. Trained in the Italian bel canto tradition, for ten years Lynn was the principal soprano soloist with the Maui Symphony and Maui Pops Orchestra. She has been called the "Mary Poppins of Vocal Coaches," and has taught young and old alike to find their own unique sound. Lynn has been coaching Maiden Vermont since the summer, helping the chorus to blossom musically.
Founded and directed by Lindi Bortney, a nationally recognized barbershop coach and choral director, Maiden Vermont has been performing locally and around the state since 2004. Now nearly fifty voices strong, they sing regularly for First Night festivals, the Burlington Dragon Boat Festival, the Salisbury and Castleton summer concert series, fundraisers for nonprofits, and naturalization ceremonies. They have performed at Festival on the Green in Middlebury and the Flynn Space in Burlington as well. For the past few years, Maiden Vermont has also played Cupid locally with their ongoing program of singing Valentines, delivered each February 14 in venues ranging from Middlebury College's Mead chapel to a local dairy barn! Their repertoire consists of barbershop, doo-wop, swing, Broadway tunes, and other a cappella music in a witty mix that is fun for the whole family.
This joyous offering of seasonal music is sponsored by Danforth Pewter. Performances Friday, December 11 at 8 pm, with a Saturday matinee December 12 at 2 pm. Tickets are $17 /$12 students, and are available at the Town Hall Theater Box Office, by calling 802-382-9222, online at www.townhalltheater.org, or in person Monday - Saturday from 12-5 pm
