The three hottest London theater tickets are the first three shows of the new season of National Theatre Live, broadcast at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater in Vermont. The shows are completely sold out in London and the only way to see them is through the upcoming broadcasts.
The season begins on Thursday, September 6 with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the best-selling novel by Mark Haddon. A murder mystery of sorts, it is told by an autistic fifteen year old who stumbles onto a crime. In London, the show is appealing to very diverse, younger audiences.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be shown on the big screen at Town Hall Theater on Thursday, September 6 at 7 pm. Tickets are $17, with a special student price of $10.
The second National Theatre hit is The Last of the Haussmans, a showcase for the great talent of Julie Walters, whose screen credits range from Educating Rita to Harry Potter. The brand new play by Stephen Beresford chronicles the lives of an aging hippie family who try to cling to their 60's ideals in the 21st century,
Last of the Haussmans will be shown at Town Hall Theater on Thursday, October 11.
Shakespeare's rarely performed tragedy of money and greed, Timon of Athens, rounds out the fall season on Tuesday, November 11. Simon Russell Beale, who some are calling the greatest living Shakespearean actor, plays the title role in a contemporary production directed by NT's artistic director, Nicolas Hytner.
Tickets to all National Theatre broadcasts are $17, with a special $10 ticket for students. They may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Noon- 5 pm, Mon-Sat) or at the door.
