A fancy night on the town, a terrific meal and show-stopping entertainment - all to support a great cause. That's what Town Hall Theater has in mind as it brings back the THT Gala tonight, October 17.
"In those crazy days when we were renovating the building, we did a gala every year, to raise consciousness as much as to raise money. People loved them," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "But once we opened the theater we were suddenly crammed with events and the idea of a gala slipped through the cracks."
Anderson remembers some pivotal galas in THT's past. "The gala built around our production ofChicago was held in what was essentially a construction site. It was 100 degrees in the theater but the entire town turned out to support the project, and it was a terrific evening."
Galas, Anderson says, are a great way for the community to show support for THT while enjoying a terrific meal and entertainment.
Local restaurant Tourterelle is creating a gourmet meal of this year's event. Over dessert, Anderson has created a show he calls Showstoppers!, which will feature performers from THT's history who stopped the show. "We've been blessed with many moments in our history when audiences went wild for a particular number. I've invited back the people who made those musical moments happen." Doug Anderson himself will be the MC, and has threatened "maybe to perform a little myself."
Proceeds for the gala will underwrite future productions at THT.
Showstoppers! The 2014 THT Gala will happen on Friday, October 17, beginning with a reception at 6 pm. Tickets are $100 plus tax, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, or at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm.)
