In the Metropolitan Opera's bold new production, broadcast live at Town Hall Theater on April 14, Violetta will be played by French soprano Natalie Dessay.  Known as a fierce and committed actor as well as an astonishing singer, Dessay – whose early training was in theater – can be mesmerizing on the stage.

Dessay has been featured in other Met broadcasts at THT, notably La Sonnambula, Hamlet, and Lucia di Lammermoor.  This will be her first Violetta at the Met, and it's generating a lot of excitement.

"We've scheduled not one but two showings of La Traviata, which is unusual for us," says THT executive Director Douglas Anderson.  "I'm expecting crowds because people are always interested in Verdi's most popular work, and I think this time around there's a special interest in seeing how Dessay will tackle the role.  Expect fireworks."

The Metropolitan Opera "Live in HD"  La Traviata will be shown on Saturday April 14 at 1 pm.  An encore presentation will be shown on Sunday, April 15, at 3 pm.

Tickets are $24 for the general public and $10 for students.  They may be purchased at  www.townhallthetater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Noon- 5 pm, Mon-Sat) or at the door.
