With over $6 million raised towards its $10 million goal, the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has begun the first phase of construction on a new studio theatre on the five-acre Walker Farmstead on Route 100 South. Scroll down for photos!
The new theatre is the centerpiece of the nonprofit company's current capital campaign. While large-scale summer productions will continue at the iconic Weston Playhouse, the new theatre will expand the campus of the 78-year-old arts organization, allowing for year-round productions, the development of new plays, educational programming and community use.
With a state permit posted, David Chaves Excavating has begun preparing the site for the 6900 square foot building. The site will be stabilized and protected from erosion over the winter, with work expected to resume in the spring.
The theatre company extends its thanks to the design/build firm Bread Loaf for advancing the project, and to the many donors whose contributions are making the dream of a year-round artistic campus a reality.
