Jack Goodman will present a selection from his extensive portfolio of images. The prolific Middlebury photographer has been taking pictures for 65 years around the United States and Canada but has found that digital photography has inspired him to capture more images in the last three years than in the previous decades. Images include landscapes, still life and architectural themes, including both color and black and white prints. The exhibition will be on display from today, May 15 - June 27, 2015, with an artist's reception set for Friday, May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Scroll down for a sneak peek at Goodman's work!

Goodman's expertise with his equipment allows him to create everything from exquisitely detailed close range pictures of colorful fruits or vegetables to panoramas with entire flocks of geese lifting off from an Addison county field and suspended in time. He zooms in on birds in their habitat, often waiting hours for the perfect time to capture a pair of baby owls or the regal head of a blue heron. His landscapes display a sensitivity to the inherent visual and textural compositions in nature itself, often with a dramatic flair.

Goodman's photographs tend to realism. He states that he does a minimum of doctoring, and says he wouldn't do anything to an image that Ansel Adams didn't do to his images. He has a slight preference for black and white images, but readily admits they are really two different mediums, adding that in digital photography most black and white images are actually converted from full color originals.

The images in this show were selected from approximately 10,000 by his daughter, Jane Miller and by himself. Proceeds from all sales will benefit the Town Hall Theater and its endowment fund. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Friday, May 22 from 5 - 7 pm. The Jackson Gallery is open Monday - Saturday from noon - 5 pm and during theater events.
