PEOPLE to Screen at the Town Hall Theater, 3/29

Alan Bennett is one of Britain's most celebrated playwrights. Following its original run at the National Theater, his play The History Boys transferred to Broadway and won the Tony Award for Best Play. His Madness of George III was a hit both on stage and in a film adaptation.

His last play, The Habit of Art, was a hit at the National and was broadcast to theaters all over the world.

Bennett has reached that point in his career where every new play is a major event. He has delivered once again with the comedy People, now playing to packed houses at the National. The plot centers on a grand but crumbling mansion owned by two elderly women who can no longer keep it. Perhaps the place is a metaphor for England itself; once resplendent and sure of itself, it's now just a shadow of itself with an uncertain future. What's next for the house? Everyone has a plan, and some of the ideas are not very respectable.

Directed by NT's artistic director Nicholas Hytner and starring the irrepressible Frances de la Tour, People will be shown on the THT big screen on Friday, March 29 at 7:00 pm.
