Northern Stage to Present the Everyman Theatre/Olney Theatre Center Production of GROUNDED

Rated a Top 10 Play of 2013 by the Guardian and the London Evening Standard, this one-woman show explores the moral and psychological consequences of America's transition to drone warfare. Megan Anderson stars as a grounded air force pilot reassigned to drone warfare. A Baltimore/DC based actor, this is her debut at Northern Stage. Other credits include work at Theater J, Olney Theatre Center, Round House Theatre, and Woolly Mammoth. Anderson is a member of the Resident Acting Company of Baltimore's Everyman Theatre, where she first performed the role of the pilot under the direction of Derek Goldman, who returns to the piece with Megan for Northern Stage's production. Goldman is an award-winning stage director and Professor of Theater and Performance Studies at Georgetown University. His work has been seen at the Steppenwolf, Lincoln Center, Arena Stage, and the Kennedy Center, among others. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Theatre Communications Group (TCG.)

The creative team is completed with Luciana Stecconi, Ivania Stack, Harold F. Burgess II, Jared Mezzocchi, Paul Deziel, Ed Shimelonis, Cat Wallis, and Jillian Gowac. Producing Artistic Director Carol Dunne shares her thoughts about the piece: "We present Grounded as a mirror to our production of Macbeth. Where Shakespeare's tragedy presents a visceral and immediate experience of the cruelty of war, Grounded reveals the detachment inherent in modern warfare, a detachment that is deeply disturbing and ultimately unfathomable for the female protagonist who is trying to 'have it all'... as a wife, a mother, and an Air Force pilot."

Summit Wealth Group and VPR sponsor performances. The production is recommended for ages 15 and up due to strong language and subject matter. An optional post-show conversation with the company follows evening performances March 25 and 31. $15 Anytime Student Tickets and $5 Access for All tickets (for EBT card holders) are available for any performance. Adult ticket prices range from $30-$55. $20 Tuesday, a special discount night at the theater, is slated for Tuesday, March 21. A complimentary post-show reception with the cast follows the opening night performance onSaturday, March 18. A free "Spot On" Conversation featuring Daniel Benjamin, the Norman E. McCulloch Jr. Director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College will be held Sunday, March 26 from 3:30-4:30 PM. Prior to joining the Dickey Center, Benjamin served as Ambassador-At-Large and Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the U.S. State Department and will share his expertise on the challenges and complexities in today's American military.
