Dorset Theatre Festival continues its tradition of New Play Development with a reading of acclaimed playwright Nicole Burdette's Utterly Changed. The reading, part of DTF's 2014 New Play Reading Series, will star Kathryn Erbe of Law and Order: Criminal Intent and take place on Sunday, July 13 at 7pm.

Nicole Burdette is a playwright, an actress, and the co-founder of the Naked Angels Theater Company. Her play Chelsea Walls was adapted into a film which was directed by Ethan Hawke and starred Kris Kristofferson and Uma Thurman.

The reading will be overseen by DTF Artistic Director Dina Janis, and will also feature Louis Cancelmi who has worked extensively on stage and film including at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Rattlestick, Arena Stage and the Public Theater among others. Joining them will be local favorite Benjie White from Hubbard Hall, seen last summer at DTF in the Sam Hunter reading of Rest. Additional casting to be announced.

Utterly Changed takes place in Yorkshire, England over three days when an American woman has come to grieve her father and hunt. She is orbited by an Irishman and entrepreneur, the owner of the house, and his son, a doctor returning from South Sudan.

DTF supports playwrights at every stage of the creative process and works hard to find authentic voices in theatre. New American plays that began their lives at DTF include world premieres of Theresa Rebeck's The Novelist (2010) and Michael Cristofer's The Whore and Mr. Moore (2012), as well as readings of Theresa Rebeck's Dead Accounts and Seminar, both moving on to critical acclaim on Broadway. DTF recently was noted for having hosted 3 of the 46 top playwrights who made the renowned Kilroy's list, as well as another 9 who were this year's nominees. "It is so exciting to me that DTF continues to support the work of some of the top playwrights working today and in particular, Nicole, whose voice is so unique, so poetic and so profound," says Dina Janis, DTF Artistic Director.
