An intimate, brash, and feisty portrait of Ann Richards, legendary Governor of Texas
Written by award-winning actress and writer Holland Taylor, Ann is an inspiring and hilarious play that brings us face to face with the complex, colorful, and captivating character bigger than the state from which she hailed. Performed by two-time Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson ("House of Cards," "Madam Secretary"), Ann takes a revealing look at the impassioned woman who enriched the lives of her followers, friends, and family.
"This seems to be the year of the female," said Dina Janis, Dorset's Artistic Director. "Ann is such an exciting way to end our 41st season, and the combination of Ann Richards, Holland Taylor, and Jayne Atkinson means this is sure to be a hit," she added.
ANN features scenic design by Juliana von Haubrich, costumes by Jess Goldstein (2005 Tony Award, The Rivals), lighting by Andi Lyons, sound design by M.L. Dogg. Ms. Atkinson's wig was designed by Paul Huntley, winner of the 2003 Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre. The stage manager is Emely Zepeda.
Ann is a co-production with WAM Theatre, Lenox, MA.
Co-founded in 2010 by Ann director Kristen Van Ginhoven, WAM Theatre is a "double non-profit." The theatre has donated over $41,500 of proceeds from its main stage productions to charities serving women and girls.
"We are so grateful to Kristen Van Ginhoven and all of our new friends at WAM for approaching us with this project. It's been an exciting challenge and a refreshing collaboration to bring Ann to our stage in Dorset, and I'm thrilled that the fun will continue with WAM's October run," said Will Rucker, Producing Director at Dorset Theatre Festival.
