The Jackson Gallery at Town Hall Theater announce the opening of Janest Fredericks' "It's All About Water" from Friday, August 13th to Saturday, September 25th. The exhibit features paintings and works on paper celebrating the local waterways.
There will be an opening Reception on Friday, August 13, from 5 to 7 PM during Middlebury ArtsWalk. The regular gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, from noon to 5 PM.
Drawing upon the rivers and topography of her native landscape, Janet Fredericks creates paintings and works on paper that are simultaneously maps, indicators of place and subtle tracings of experience. Trees, shrubs and plant life join rising landmasses, pathways of wildlife and meandering rivers. Together, they form a vital vocabulary through which the artist speaks. These mappings refer not only to surface topography but to what lies beneath...the seen and unseen life of our natural world.
For the past 15 years Janet Fredericks has been drawn to water, first drawing hulls of boats and ships, to fish and then to making drawings directly in water itself recording what the artist calls "the language of flowing water." She has collaborated with other artists, poets and dancers to interact with and honor water. These drawings and prints are studies, woodcuts and paintings celebrating our local waterways. Janet lives and works in Lincoln with Tom Verner.
