Tuesday, July 19, 8:00 PM - Enjoy singer-songwriter extraordinaire Howard Fishman in an evening of New Orleans jazz, Brooklyn soul, open-hearted country, and blues. Proceeds support Dorset Theatre Festival's Giving Back program, which subsidizes tickets for members of our community who serve us every day.

The Dorset Theatre Festival and Vermont Arts Exchange are proud to present one of today's most agile interpreters of the American songbook, Howard Fishman, in concert on July 19 at 8:00 PM. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Festival's Giving Back Program. Singer, guitarist, composer, and bandleader; whether performing his own compositions or drawing on a seemingly endless repertoire of American popular music, Fishman's performances are filtered through a sensibility and aesthetic all his own that "transcends time and idiom" (The New York Times). Interviewed on WAMC, Joe Donahue says Fishman began "his musical career on the streets of New Orleans and the subways of New York before landing his first major engagement at the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel in 1999." He has since headlined in major venues both in the United States and abroad, including The Steppenwolf Theatre, The Blue Note, NJPAC, The Pasadena Playhouse, Joe's Pub, The Bottom Line, and Le Petit Journal in Paris. He made his Lincoln Center debut in February, 2007, when he was presented as part of this season's American Songbook series. Fishman has also been a guest on various NPR programs, making feature-length appearances on "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross, "World Cafe" with David Dye, "The Leonard Lopate Show" and "Soundcheck" with John Schaefer, among others.

Dorset Theatre Festival is dedicated to nurturing both artists and audiences through productions that reflect the region it serves - diverse, brilliant, raw, and alive. Since 2010, a distinct group of individuals have partnered with us to help produce Dorset Theatre Festival's diverse array of productions and programs. This support helps ensure the development and expansion of Dorset Theatre Festival's unique, challenging productions, educational initiatives, and reduced cost programming designed to grow a new generation of theatre audiences and allow all within our community the chance to see world class theatre. Our Giving Back Promotions provide "pay-what-you-can" tickets to those who serve our community each day, including: EMS Workers, farmers, firefighters, police, military personnel and their families, veterans, the special needs community, Vermont teachers, student graduates of the Refuse to Use Program, and Habitat For Humanity staff and volunteers.

The Dorset Theatre Festival creates bold and innovative theatre that engages a diverse, multi-generational community, enlightening, entertaining, and inspiring its audience through the celebration of great plays produced with the highest degree of artistry.
