The Frost Place in Franconia, NH, has announced a one-night-only performance of This Verse Business, a play by A. M. Dolan, starring Gordon Clapp. The performance will take place at Briggs Opera House, 12 North Main Street, in White River Junction, VT, Thursday, August 16, at 7:30pm.

Clapp is perhaps best known for his Emmy winning role as Detective Greg Medavoy in the television series, NYPD Blue. He has also appeared in several major motion pictures and popular television shows. Clapp now tours extensively portraying the beloved American poet, Robert Frost, including an appearance last year at the Mt Washington Theater Company in Conway, NH, where he often performed some 30 years ago. He is a native of North Conway.

The Frost Place is a Museum and Center for Poetry and the Arts located at the 1915 home of Robert and Elinor Frost and their four children. The house, with some modern amenities, is maintained as a museum dedicated to the ideas and vision of this great poet. It is also home, for some weeks in the summer, to a Dartmouth Poet-in-Residence, who lives in the house and participates, as Frost did, in readings at area colleges as well as at The Frost Place itself. Poetry festivals and conferences during the summer months keep the art of poetry alive in the North Country that Frost loved.

This Verse Business is presented using minimal props or scenery and may appear simplistic in its design. But, just as Frost was a man of deep, meaningful and intriguing beliefs and philosophies, so this performance will touch the audience with its humor and poignancy. Those who have seen it describe it as “wonderful”, leaving them with the impression of having spent an evening with the poet himself.

The performance at Briggs Opera House will be a major fundraising event for The Frost Place this year. Appreciation is extended to our underwriters, EverGreen Capital Partners and White Mountains Insurance. General Admission tickets are $35 each. Patron tickets are $70, with $35 tax-deductible. Proceeds benefit The Frost Place. Patrons are welcome to a post-show reception in the lobby with Mr. Clapp.

Tickets may be purchased by phone using a credit card, at 603-823-5510, or by mail by sending a check payable to The Frost Place to: The Frost Place, PO Box 74, Franconia, NH 03580.
