George Hearn, one of the biggest stars of the Broadway musical, is our neighbor. Having won Tony awards for his performances in La Cage aux Folles and Sunset Boulevard, and an Emmy for playing the title role in Sweeney Todd opposite Angela Lansbury, he now lives with his family outside of Essex, New York.
"I've met George a couple of times," says THT artistic director Douglas Anderson, "always hoping to find to find the right project to get him to Town Hall Theater. So we're delighted that he's joined with two terrific musicians to bring us this charming show for adults and children."
Hearn will handle the narration in a special concert for kids of all ages called Animal Tales. Piano wizards Jennifer Moore and Rose Chancler will perform four-hand piano while Hearn tells the beloved tales of The Story of Babar" by Francis Poulenc, Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev, and Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns.
"Four-handed piano is itself a remarkable thing to experience," says Anderson. "It rings out the enormous emotional and tonal range of the piano. Add a celebrated actor like George on the narration and you have one extraordinary event."
