He's done just about everything at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater, except perhaps the hardest thing: to come out on stage as a performer. That will happen this month, as Douglas Anderson performs in the Eastview Cabaret Series on Thursday, March 25.

Anderson's show, "Songs You Don't Know," is a selection of obscure songs that he's collected over the years that for some reason never made it onto the hit parade. Anderson will play the piano, which he's quite comfortable with, and he'll sing - something that's keeping him awake nights.

"I think we all want to be singers, deep down, which is why we break into song in the shower and when we're alone. I've always wanted to do a show like this, but who who'd have hired me? Now that I run this beautiful theater, the audience is just going to have to put up with me for one night."

The Eastview Cabaret at Town Hall Theater is a brand-new addition to the THT line-up. For this series the Byers Studio on THT's lower level is transformed into a 60-seat club, with bistro tables and a cash bar. "The room has a great, welcoming vibe, and performers love the closeness of the audience," says Anderson. THT hopes that people will come downtown, have dinner at one of Middlebury's great restaurants and then head to THT for a musical nightcap.

Douglas Anderson: Songs You Don't Know will play one night only, Thursday, March 25, with shows at 7 and 9 pm. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm) or at the door, if available.

Next in the series, Bill Bickford, who played the Music Man in the recent Middlebury Community Players production, will be joined by his wife, Mindy Hinsdale, for an evening of Broadway show tunes and standards. Tickets are on sale for the Thursday, April 15, performance.
