Dorset Theatre Festival will present The Mousetrap, Dame Agatha Christie's masterpiece of mayhem and mystery, from August 14th through the 30th at the Dorset Playhouse. The Mousetrap, in addition to being one of Christie's most famous works, has the distinction of being the world's longest continually running play. The original production, at London's Ambassador Hotel, has been running continuously since 1952!
Dorset's production will be directed by returning director Paul Mullins, a local favorite for his productions of Superior Donuts and The Whore and Mr. Moore. The cast features top New York actors and some familiar faces, including Carol Halstead (Clybourne Park), Anthony Roach (Barefoot in the Park) and Tom Ferguson (Barefoot in the Park). The wonderful ensemble cast also includes Gretchen Hall, last seen in Major Barbara at A.C.T and Measure for Measure at Shakespeare Theatre Company; Will Haden, whose theatre credits include Romeo and Juliet and The Three Musketeers at Connecticut Rep; Kieran Mulcare, who has performed in Hamlet at Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and Red Light Winter at Playhouse on the Park; Julia Ogilvie, who was last seen off-Broadway in That Beautiful Laugh opposite Alan Tudyk; and Andrew Weems, a Broadway veteran from such shows as Born Yesterday and Inherit the Wind.
"This is Agatha Christie's best play, in my opinion. We are excited to bring audiences a classic mystery but in a production which pushes it forward for today's audiences," says Dina Janis, Artistic Director. "Paul is sure to bring us a Mousetrap unlike any we've seen before." Tickets for children ages 12 and under for The Mousetrap (and the entire 2014 season) are free, thanks to underwriting from the Bank of Bennington.
Performances of The Mousetrap run August 14 - 30 at the Dorset Playhouse. Evening performances at 8 pm Wednesday through Saturday and some Tuesdays; matinees at 3 pm Wednesdays and Sundays and some Saturdays. On Saturday, August 16th, a talk-back with Director Paul Mullins and Artistic Director Dina Janis will follow the matinee performance. Tickets and info are available at www.dorsettheatrefestival.org or by calling the Box Office at 802-867- 2223. The Mousetrap is sponsored by Orvis.
