Middlebury Actors Workshop will present Obie Award Winning Playwright Annie Baker's Vermont play "Body Awareness" at Town Hall Theater, July 6 - 9.

Annie Baker is one of the most gifted young playwrights working today. Her trilogy of plays set in the fictional college town of Shirley, Vermont, are masterful, funny and subtle comedies, of the sort that make you laugh even as they present you with an amazingly complex web of emotions and ideas.

In Baker's first Vermont play, it's "Body Awareness" week on the college campus and Phyllis, the organizer, and her partner, Joyce, are hosting one of the guest artists in their home. Frank is a photographer famous for his female nude portraits. His presence in their home and his chosen subject matter instigate tension from the start. Phyllis, a staunch feminist and psychology professor, is furious at his depictions, but Joyce, a high school teacher, is intrigued by the man and his work. Meanwhile, Joyce's adult son, who may or may not have Asperger's Syndrome, struggles to express himself with humorous, but eventually heartbreaking results.

Middlebury Actors Workshop is a small professional resident company performing at Town Hall Theater. For over ten years, M.A.W. has been known for presenting hilarious, daring and subtle work. Body Awareness is directed by Middlebury College professor and playwright Dana Yeaton, and features M.A.W. veterans Melissa Lourie, Karen Lefkoe, and Mike Kiernan, as well as Middlebury College student Chris De La Cruz.

"Body Awareness" will be performed July 6 - 9 at 8pm at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. Tickets, $17, are available through the THT Box Office by calling 802-382-9222, online at www.townhalltheater.org, or in person Monday - Saturday, noon - 5:00 pm.
