Since its inception in 2001, The Bluegrass Gospel Project has become "one of New England's premier concert acts" (Seven Days). The group comes to Middlebury's Town Hall Theater for a concert on Friday, August 17 at 8:00 pm.
At its start, the BGP focused primarily on the music from which they drew their name. Hundreds of concerts later, the band's repertoire has comfortably morphed into an eclectic mix of songs that showcase their stunning vocal capabilities. There still remains a thread of spiritual sensibility throughout their playlist – songs that express common values held by people of all faiths and backgrounds, songs in which both serenity and optimism is found amidst the struggles visiting the human condition.
With folk, pop, and bluegrass songs that range from U2 to Bob Dylan, from Sam Cooke to Steve Earle, the BGP's repertoire now defies easy categorization and continues to thrill audiences.
Superb musicians, they're also known for their magnificent vocals. Robert Resnick of SEVEN DAYS calls them "a choir of top-notch vocalists…Just try to find a better group of singers."
The Boston Globe writes that "their music ripples with human emotion and imponderable mystery." Vermont Life Magazine adds, "This group is a force to be reckoned with onstage … their voices and harmonies can make you see the light, and tremble."
Tickets for the August 17 concert are $17, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Noon- 5 pm, Mon-Sat) or at the door.
