Outstanding VSO Principal Cello Ariel Barnes makes his VSO concerto debut performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto, a thoughtful, serene, elegiac work composed in the aftermath of World War I. The program also includes the beautiful orchestral idyll, The Banks of Green Willow by Vaughan Williams’s close friend George Butterworth, an English composer killed in action in the First World War.
