Early Music Vancouver (EMV) presents Bach Ties the Knot, a captivating concert of J.S. Bach’s wedding-related works, February 15, 2025 at 3pm, at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church. This concert is part of EMV’s annual LUMEN Festival. Featuring renowned German soprano Dorothee Mields alongside the Pacific Baroque Orchestra (PBO), led by Alexander Weimann, Bach Ties the Knot celebrates the timeless themes of love and union through some of Bach’s most exquisite music. Bach’s Cantata BWV 202 “Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten” (Dissipate, you troublesome shadows) - possibly composed for Bach’s own wedding to Anna Magdalena - is paired with Dorothée Mields newly crafted Fictive Wedding Cantata, “O großes Hochzeitsfest!”, in which she repurposes some of Bach’s most exquisite music from various cantatas. Described as “one of the finest, most genteel singers of our time,” Mields’ incredible artistry and deep connection to Bach’s repertoire will shine throughout the evening.
