Turning Point Ensemble launches its season with a performance by ECM+ ensemble contemporain de Montréal featuring a generation of new composers on Oct. 25th at 8pm at the Orpheum Annex, for only one show.
Renowned conductor Véronique Lacroix who founded ECM+ in 1987 is known for discovering emerging Canadian composers. From the podium of ECM+ she has conducted the premiere of almost 246 new works, mostly written by Canadian Composers.
This concert is an example of her passion as it includes pieces by four emerging Canadian composers. The evening works include: Edmonton native, Taylor Brook's work, Tirant Lo Blanc for 9 instruments and flute, Victoria's Sabrina Schroeder's Bone Games - shy garden, Adam Scime, Toronto, Liminal Pathways and Montreal's Symon Henry's new work debout, un respire grand comme. Each featured composer is involved in a variety of projects and has been receiving recognition and accolades not only in Canada but also from around the world.
Owen Underhill, Artistic Director of Turning Point Ensemble, stated: "ECM+'s Generation Canadian tours, first begun in 1994, are legendary. They are the place to experience first-hand innovative work by the best of Canadian composers under the age of 35. Having all four composers present discussing their work personalizes and improves the listening experience for the audience."
