THE IT GIRL, a family friendly musical based on the 1927 Paramount picture, will receive its Canadian premiere when it bows this fall in a new production from Vancouver's DramaNatrix Productions.
The musical is a lighthearted tribute to silent movies and Clara Bow that reinvents her 1927 film about a sassy department store sales clerk who wins a department store contest held to find the girl with the elusive, thrilling quality known as IT.
THE IT GIRL had its premiere with the York Theatre Company in New York in 2001, and features a book by Michael Small and BT McNicholl, music by Paul McKibbins, and lyrics by BT McNicholl.
An award-winning cast and crew have been assembled for the production that features Katie Purych as Betty Lou Spence. The cast also includes Jared Arthur, Stephanie Liatopoulos, Dimitrios Stephanoy, Ranae Miller, Paige Fraser, Erika Babins, Robin Sukorokoff, Sue Sparlin, Stefanie Stanley, Zachary Beardsley, and Ryan Nunez.
Nancy von Euw directs, with Jeremy Hoffman handling musical direction, and Erika Babins providing choreography.
THE IT GIRL is presented by DramaNatrix Productions, a new female partnership focused on engaging audiences with fresh, modern musical theatre with an emphasis on creating more roles and opportunites for women in the industry.
