Forty-five years after stunning audiences and sweeping theatre awards across Canada and the U.S., Realwheels Theatre is proud to present David E. Freeman's CREEPS at The Cultch from Thursday, December 1st to Saturday, December 10, 2016.

A seminal play by a writer who lived with cerebral palsy, Freeman was one of the first writers to put his own voice - a Canadian voice - on the stage in the early 70's. CREEPS is an historically significant play that seems written with ink that's a blend of tears, blood, and sweat. In reality, it was written on a typewriter that Freeman operated with a stick held between his teeth.

CREEPS tells the story of four disabled men who work in a sheltered workshop doing mundane work. They escape to the washroom to share their feelings and vent their hatred for their institutionalized environment as well as the charities that support it. The savagery and hilarity of Freeman's uncompromising and sardonic dialogue drives the show and expresses the tension of the oppressed with a palpable ferocity and clarity.

CREEPS puts people living with disability front and centre onstage. For the first time ever, this production features a truly mixed-ability cast, featuring three artists with disabilities alongside Vancouver's recognized professional actors. The casting speaks to Realwheels Theatre's ongoing commitment to fostering interchange between mainstream and disability arts sectors.

Directed by Brian Cochrane (52 Pick-up, Wide Awake Hearts, Speech & Debate) and featuring from the disability community Paul Beckett (Lautrec, Waiting for Godot), Adam Grant Warren (I Love Mondays, All In), and Aaron Roderick in his debut role, in addition to Brett Harris (Lost Words: Political Edition,Trainspotting) and David A. Kaye (Bombitty of Errors, Little Creation), CREEPS will give audiences a rare glimpse into the lived experience of disability, filtered through a 1970's lens.
