Originally written in 2006, JESUS CHRIST: The Lost Years was one of Monster Theatre's most successful shows in its first incarnation. Ten years after it's last performance, we have updated this masterpiece and injected fresh life in the form of The Canada Show stars Carly Pokoradi and Alex Gullason.
In the bible, there is a plot hole. Mary and Joseph accidentally leave a 13 year old Jesus in Jerusalem after passover, when they find him he is teaching the Pharisees and Sadducees in the Temple. The next time we see Jesus, he is 30 years old wandering around the desert, getting baptized by John the Baptist. In this deeply researched, totally irreverent comedy, we see teenaged Jesus, wondering why he doesn't fit in. Mary and Joseph finally come clean and tell him that Joseph isn't his real father. Hurt and confused, Jesus heads off on the most epic father quest of all time. Along the way he meets Judas, Mary Magdalene, the Three Wise Men, Lepers, Romans, he even has a battle with the spirit of Elvis!
JESUS CHRIST: The Lost Years marked a change in direction for Monster Theatre. Before this play we were primarily a musical sketch company famous for our takes on the history of Canada and the World. JC saw us branch off into the world of physical theatre, with this inventive, award winning and totally unique staging. Both actors take turns playing Jesus, as well as about 20 other characters each. This version is directed by Ryan Gladstone. The action is supported by the incredible original score composed and recorded by violin virtuoso Drew Jurecka (Vinyl Cafe, Hogtown Syncopators, Jill Barber).
