Randie Parliament, Artistic Producer, Ghost Light Projects, announced today the upcoming fifth season for the theatre company.
Opening the season is Lillian Hellman's brilliant 1934 play, The Children's Hour. Bullying, sexual confusion and suicide provide the basis to this dark piece. A show written 79 years ago, yet so poignant to our current state.
For all of October, Ghost Light will be co-producing with Laughing Monkey Production and Carpe Ictus Music the cult hit, Hedwig And The Angry Inch by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. The rock musical about leaving a little behind in pursuit of your dreams includes music direction by Juno winner Mark Reid, and stars Ryan Alexander MacDonald as Hedwig and Lee McKeown as Yitzhak.
November marks the return of The Boys In The Band by Mart Crowley. Written in 1968, it centres around friendships and confronting the past. With Matthew Romantini reprising his role as Michael, the host with a chip on his shoulder. This classic continues to inspire and we are proud to be a part of its longevity.
Rounding out the first half of the season, is Brian Gianci's holiday comedy, Let's Kill Grandma This Christmas. After premiering Off Broadway last year, it makes its Canadian debut for three weeks in December.
In 2014, Ghost Light presents Clue: The Musical. Based on the board game and with elements of the movie, this is sure to start your year out right with the ultimate 'whodunit'. With over 200 possible endings, each audience will enjoy their very own unique experience from all the other shows!
The sixth show is an original, The Singing Butler by Randie Parliament, was written while attending The International Butler Academy in The Netherlands, it tells the story of living a life in service with all the secrets one over hears. A fictional piece of slavery and solitude and how the imagination can be your best friend.
The season five finale is Moises Kaufman's, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde. The perfect book end to The Children's Hour, it describes the persecution of art and sexuality for being different and thus perverse. With the current events in Russia, this drama of prosecution proves that such acts only deem to stifle creativity.
