Sasha Regan’s joyous all-male production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado is set to bring a huge dollop of cheer to Wilton’s Music Hall this summer. Expect plenty of tuneful golden earworms from a sensational cast singing all the familiar rollicking G&S classics including: “A Wand'ring Minstrel I”; “I’ve Got a Little List” and “Three Little Maids from School”.

The all-male The Mikado first toured in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim. It arrives at Wilton’s hot-on-the-heels of Sasha Regan’s recent smash hit all-male H.M.S. Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance (Wilton’s Music Hall and the Palace Theatre, West End).

Traditionally set in Japan, Sasha Regan’s inventive all-male The Mikado is inspired by same sex school G&S productions. The action is cleverly and playfully transported to 1950s England where an all-boys’ school camping trip is visiting the land of Titipu. Topsy-turvy capers follow when Nanki-Poo, the son of Japanese Emperor Mikado, flees his father’s imperial court and falls in love with Yum-Yum who is betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner…but will heads roll? Gilbert & Sullivan’s inherent humour, satire on the English establishment and timeless tunefulness are married with Regan’s wicked sense of fun.
