The multi-award winning American classical violinist, Sarah Chang, long considered one of the most outstanding musicians of her generation, makes a welcome return to the London stage when she presents an attractive mixed programme at the Cadogan Hall on February 13th. Accompanied by the renowned British pianist Ashley Wass, Chang will perform the following programme:
Bart k Romanian Folk Dances (composed by the Hungarian B la Bart k in 1915)
Brahms Violin Sonata No. 3 in D Minor (the last of Brahms' violin concertos 1886-8)
Franck Violin Sonata in A Major (composed by C sar Franck in 1886)
This is my first duo recital with piano in London in quite some time so I'm very excited! says Sarah. I really don't do many recitals; I would say about 95% of my concerts are with orchestra and I've performed in London at the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall over the years. I love the Cadogan Hall it's beautiful and it's acoustically and visually stunning.
We are opening with the Bart k Romanian Dances, which is an incredible, firework of a piece, then centring the programme around the Brahms 3rd Sonata, which is one of the most beautiful, noble works for the violin repertoire. We'll finish with the Franck Sonata which is one of my all time favourites. It's full of love and soaring melodies and tug-your-heartstrings lyricism.
Sarah Chang and Ashley Wass have performed together frequently over the years and have proved extremely popular as a duo with audiences and critics. Ashley partnered Sarah for her critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall recital in 2007 and since then they have toured the US, Asia and Europe.
