Tribe// present their debut dance production Still I Rise at the Connaught Theatre as part of Brighton Festival

Programmed in partnership with Brighton Festival, Worthing Theatres are proud to present Tribe//'s daring new dance production Still I Rise at the Connaught Theatre on Thursday 23 May, 7.30pm.

TRIBE//'s debut work Still I Rise is a call to arms performed by an all-female cast. Raw, gutsy emotive and visceral dance work from choreographer Victoria Fox creates a stark world where the dancers push forwards with uplifting determination.

This dance work channels the resilient, unapologetic nature of the seminal poem, written by African-American writer, singer, and activist Maya Angelou. A relentless hope for the human spirit, combined with a soundtrack from pounding beats to classical arias, drives the journey onwards, falling down, gathering up...until we rise.

Since 2016 TRIBE// has created accessible dance for a range of audiences to
enjoy, connect with and be inspired by. This audience connection drives a
dynamic, gutsy and inventive choreographic craft.

TRIBE// is led by Victoria Fox-Markiewicz, and is the culmination of 20 years experience at the cutting edge of dance. Victoria is a Discovery Artist at Pavilion Dance South West and, from 2019, an Associate Artist at Swindon Dance. She has an enviable track record as a dancer/performer in companies like Candoco, Baila Louca (Holland), Silesian Dance Theatre (Poland) and Jasmin Vardimon Company. Victoria's previous company, Underground7, was commissioned for the Place Prize 2008, and won the audience vote, touring Poland and Brighton.

On Still I Rise, Artistic Director Victoria Fox says "It's powerful, absorbing, emotive. I'm hoping it will make the audience really feel they are with the dancers. It's contemporary dance that is very physical at times and demands a lot of technical dance skill to perform. Five female dancers take the audience on a journey through simmering tensions, moments of unison, togetherness, bodies flying through the space, duets and delicate solos. I hope that it speaks to everybody, whether you have seen contemporary dance before or not."

Tickets for Still I Rise are priced from £12.50 and are available to purchase from the Worthing Theatres box office on 01903 206 206 and online at worthingtheatres.co.uk.

Tickets for the performance at Brighton Theatre Royal on Wednesday 22 May are priced from £15 and are available to purchase from the Brighton Festival box office on 01273 709 709 and online at brightonfestival.or
