Tony Roberts to Bring CARD MAGIC to Brighton Fringe

Tony Roberts - Card Magic is a hilarious hour of storytelling and world-class close up magic, as full-time street escapologist, Tony Roberts shares his tales that have taken him from being a corporate city worker and leaving it all behind, to take to the streets with some jokes, a deck of cards and an escape act. Every card tells a tale, every illusion a story from boardroom to busker in this show which won a 'Best Cabaret' Award Nomination at last year's Brighton Fringe, returning this year to play The Bosco Theatre at the Brighton Spiegeltent.

Tony Roberts has performed at festivals internationally with his show Card Magic and his street escapology act, selling out shows and gaining critical acclaim at festivals including Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh International Magic Festival, Auckland Buskers Festival, Dubai Street Theatre Festival and Edinburgh Fringe.

In Card Magic, Tony Roberts takes two volunteers from the audience and gives them front row table-side seats as he plays out his series of spectacular sophisticated card illusions seamlessly intertwined with stories. All the action from the card table is amplified onto a big screen so all audience members see every bit of the action.

Tony Roberts says: 'Having recently performed the show in a speigeletent for the first time at Adelaide Fringe, I am excited to bring the new upscaled version of Card Magic back to Brighton Fringe in the legendary Bosco.'

Producer Monica Corduff-Gonzalez says: 'I love Tony's ability to take a room from complete silence to roaring laugher, you find yourself happily listening and laughing at his stories and bam you are hit with a cracking illusion you didn't realise was happening. He creates a fascinating interplay between the magic and storytelling, you know you are witnessing something very special when you are in his hands.'

Australian-born and NZ-raised comedian and magician, Tony Roberts has had his share of career changes, starting out his working life as a chef, becoming a salesman in the motor industry and a corporate executive, at age 40 he left his day job for the adventure of becoming a full time street performer and magician. Ten years later, and Tony has toured the world with his magic and street escapology show and now resides in London escaping from chains most days of the week in Covent Garden's West Piazza.
