Austrian composer Alexander Zemlinsky (1871-1942) used Oscar Wilde's unfinished play A Florentine Tragedy as libretto for his one-act opera, wich was first performed in 1917 at Staatsoper Stuttgart in Germany. This new production of Alexander Zemlinsky's masterpiece is sung in English and accompanied by piano.
Following Time Zone Theatre's acclaimed re-imagining of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera Mozart & Salieri (Off West End Awards-Finalist 'Best Opera Production'), stage director Pamela Schermannn and musical director Andrew Charity team up again to present their interpretation of Alexander Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy this summer at the first OPERA IN THE CITY FESTIVAL at Bridewell Theatre. The production is part of Time Zone Theatre's 'Fin de Siècle' project - a series of works composed around 1900 in new, contemporary stagings. On 1st, 3rd and 4th August, Time Zone Theatre will perform a double-bill of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart & Salieri and Pietro Mascagni's Zanetto.
The project 'Fin de Siècle' is supported by Golsoncott Foundation, as well as the Austrian Cultural Forum.
