Thundermaker Productions has announced its next production 'Misalliance' by Bernard Shaw. The play will run for three weeks from the 3rd- 21st June at the Tabard Theatre in Chiswick with evening shows commencing Tues-Saturday at 19.30pm.
'An underwear tycoon, an armed gunman, a flying polish acrobat, 8 marriage proposals and a plane crash in the greenhouse - it's just another afternoon in Surrey.
Hypatia is a bored heiress to her domineering father's underwear fortune; trapped in an unhappy engagement she seeks excitement and new ideas. When a plane crashes at the bottom of the garden bringing a handsome young pilot and a female daredevil this quiet afternoon in the country is turned upside down.'
'Misalliance' hasn't been staged in London since the 1980s RSC production and before that the last time it was on in the West End was 1910. Deemed a problem play of Shaw's but as ahead of its time it is seldom performed here in the UK. Thundermaker now seek to mount the production with an eventual larger scale transfer in mind. The play explores the role of family and also the role of women in society, something ever relevant with the advent of mass twitter following for groups such as 'everyday sexism' and others related to equality in society.
The play will be directed by 'Nick Reed' whose last two plays - 'The Life coach' starring Phil Jupitas and ' Never Mind The Botox' starring Ewen Macintosh were both nominated for best new comedy and best new play at the WhatsOnStage and Offwestend awards. The design will be by Leah Sam, lighting design by Jack Weir and costume by Jessica Miles
Cast are still to be confirmed.
Thundermaker Productions Ltd helmed by Matthew Staton will produce the show as the final part of their current comedic season which aims to create intimate, entertaining and hilarious theatre at affordable prices. Their last production - 'Never Mind The Botox', has been nominated for Best New Play at The Offwestend awards.
