Thousands Turn Out For Sixth Eastleigh Unwrapped Image

On Saturday 23rd June Eastleigh Unwrapped, produced by The Point, returned for a sixth year, welcoming more than four thousand people from across the region for world-class performance.

The free outdoor arts festival included a bespoke flying machine in Highly Sprung's Urban Astronaut; musical acrobatics by Belgian company Sur Mesure; and family shows from Tin Shed Theatre and Handmade Theatre. Families were also invited to take part in drumming, dancing and circus workshops which took place across Leigh Road Recreation Park.

"Community is at the heart of what we do and Eastleigh Unwrapped certainly showcased that on Saturday! From community members performing alongside International Artists, to spectators in their thousands, the chance for people to have a go themselves and of course the glorious weather; it was a festival day to remember and one we hope to expand on. Thank you to all involved." - Vicki Hargreaves, Creative Producer (Dance) at The Point

The Sorting Office's annual Summer Open Studios also took place on Saturday and Sunday, giving festival-goers the opportunity to peruse and purchase a selection of handcrafted items made by resident Designer-Makers. The event formed part of the Unwrapped celebrations and was curated by Southampton Etsy.

Produced by The Point and presented with support from Arts Council England, Eastleigh Borough Council and Marks & Spencer, Eastleigh, Unwrapped invites high-quality artists and companies from around the UK and Europe to the borough to present professional works that the whole family can enjoy. The event aims to boost local businesses too, with the town welcoming thousands of visitors on the day and placing the area on the cultural map.

Eastleigh Unwrapped officially launched The Point's Summer Social; four weeks of outdoor events including family theatre, wellbeing, live music and film. Running now until Sunday 22nd July, the venue's Garden Stage plays host to an array of interactive activities and professional theatre shows that all ages can enjoy.
