The Theatrical Management Association (TMA) is reporting unprecedented demand for its fifth annual Touring Symposium, sponsored by W&P Longreach and Chubb Insurance. This event, which will take place at the Congress Centre in central London on March 1st, will focus on touring collaborations and international touring as well as funding within the industry.
The Symposium is a forum for debate on the development of UK touring industry. It provides an opportunity for venue managers, producers and directors involved in all scales of UK touring to determine the environment and practical operation of their industry. This year’s themes reflect the time of continued financial uncertainty within the performing arts.
Led by John Stalker (John Stalker Productions) and Iain Gillie (Curve Theatre), this session will explore the best ways that producers can work together and with venues to tour exciting product and maximise audiences.
Guest speakers Eleanor Lloyd (Peepolykus), Griselda Yorke (Punchdrunk) and Kayte Potter & Jennie Green (Great Leap Forward) will share their experiences and give insight into what they think will be the key challenges and potential rewards in the coming years, looking in particular at potential new markets and how best to exploit them.
Julian Bird (Chief Executive, TMA) will chair a debate with representatives from the UK cultural funders including Amanda Rigali (ACE), Laura Mackenzie-Stuart (Creative Scotland) and David Newland (ACW). Reviewing the growing divergence in cultural policy across the UK’s four nations, the panel will assess the impact this has had on touring.
TMA Chief Executive Julian Bird said: “The rapid uptake of this event reflects the importance of touring for the UK theatre industry, leading those working in touring to think creatively and work together to build sustainable partnerships during 2012 and beyond. With 20 industry experts offering their advice and support, the Symposium offers a forum for professionals from all over the UK to get together, network and learn from each other on what will be a dynamic and informative day”.
Michael Russell, Director, W&P Longreach said: “As the UK’s leading independent entertainment insurance broker advising both venues and producers we are delighted to support this high profile event for a further year. The partnership theme is hugely relevant at the present time and appropriate for our joint sponsorship with insurer partner Chubb”.
