This Christmas, The Watermill Theatre presents Rufus Norris' Sleeping Beauty, adapted for a cast of seven actor-musicians, the first time the production has been performed in this way. Sleeping Beauty features a brand new musical score by Tarek Merchant and is directed by Bill Buckhurst, whose production of Sweeney Todd Street opens off-Broadway in spring 2017.
The cast features Peter Bray (Prince/Minstrel), Molly Logan (Goody), Alex Mugnaioni (Prince of Nerves/Prince of Nerds), Simon Nock (The Ogress), Matthew Romain (King/Ogre), Sioned Saunders (The Queen/Table Slave) and Rachel Winters (Beauty).
Sleeping Beauty is Rufus Norris' quirky, comic re-telling of the classic fairy story by Charles Perrault, seen through the eyes of the mischievous Fairy Goody. Having condemned the beautiful princess to an enchanted sleep in a fit of anger, Fairy Goody has to seek out a suitably brave and handsome prince to break the spell. Only the dashing prince doesn't match up to expectations and Beauty's happy ever after doesn't quite go to plan.
An enchanted forest, fantastical creatures and a mother-in-law who turns out to be an ogre combine to create a magical, musical Christmas show like no other!
Sleeping Beauty is designed by Simon Kenny with lighting designed by Joshua Carr and choreography and movement by Georgina Lamb.
Tickets are £10.50 - £22 with discounted tickets available. For booking please visit watermill.org.uk or call the box office 01635 46044.
