The Watermill Theatre today announces the full company for Alan Bennett's Untold Stories opening on 5 May and running until 11 June. The production is part of Paul Hart's inaugural season as the new artistic director at The Watermill.
Warm, witty and poignant, Untold Stories is a double bill of memoirs - Hymn and Cocktail Sticks - from one of the nation's most successful and best-loved writers, whose extensive work includes The History Boys and The Madness of King George III.
Directed by Tom Attenborough, the cast includes Roger Ringrose (Alan Bennett), Richard Gibson (Dad), Lucy Tregear (Mam), Kate Robson-Stuart and Harry Napier (Ensemble).
In Hymn, Bennett recalls the hymns and music that underscored his childhood and, with great affection, his father, a violin-playing butcher.Hymn features evocative arrangements by George Fenton that will be performed live onstage.
Glimpses of his early life with Mam and Dad are shared in Cocktail Sticks. Mam seeks enlightenment from the pages of Woman's Own, and Dad, who in an effort to earn a few extra bob, upgrades to a double bass, but is thwarted when it won't fit through the doors of the tram.
Untold Stories is designed by Francesca Reidy with lighting design by Colin Grenfell, musical supervisor and sound design by Simon Slater.
