With one size ten ballet shoe in farce and the other in classical ballet, all male company 'The Trocks' return to Birmingham Hippodrome for two nights on 10 and 11 November 2015, as part of their Dance Consortium UK wide tour.
The Trocks' much welcomed return marks the company's fourteenth visit to the UK and follows extensive tours to Europe and Japan in spring and summer 2015. The Birmingham programmes includes the show-stopping Swan Lake Act II; the abstract humour of the Merce Cunningham-inspired Patterns in Space; Go For Barocco, a satire on Balanchine's choreography complete with killer hips and plenty of attitude, and the fan-flicking, castanet-clicking, UK premiere of Don Quixote.
Tory Dobrin, artistic director of The Trocks, said "This Dance Consortium tour marks the company's 14th trip to the UK and we're thrilled to be back to perform for British audiences. The reaction to the UK season opening in London has been incredible and we look forward to heading out on the road to perform in theatres across the UK. Our Birmingham dates will mark the end of a 9 week UK tour for us, but with its perfect stage for dance, the theatre's friendly staff and appreciative audiences, we very much look forward to being back at Birmingham Hippodrome."
The Trocks' combination of pure comedy, extraordinary technical prowess and genuine love of ballet have made them a global phenomenon since they formed in New York in 1974. The company has performed in over 40 countries and in over 600 cities around the world - their frenzied annual schedule has included seven tours to Australia and New Zealand, 26 to Japan, ten to South America, three tours to South Africa, and 64 tours of Europe. The Trocks' original purpose was and continues to be to bring the pleasure of dance to the widest possible audience.
