Steve Tiplady the genius behind Jabberwocky brings his incredible one man show, Pinocchio, to the Rose Theatre Kingston from Thursday 2 – Sunday 5 August.
Simultaneously, the theatre is also screening live coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games on an 80" plasma screen in the Culture Café, making the Rose a great destination for the whole family this August.
Steve Tiplady, as Geppetto, uses the objects of a carpenter's workshop to tell the tale of the puppet that wants to be a real boy, and the puppet-maker who wants to be a real father. Steve has been working with puppets since 1989. He formed the award-winning Indefinite Articles with his partner in 1995 to make theatre from objects and materials.
In their latest production Pinocchio is carved on stage, brushes become a fox and the shadow of two saws transforms into a giant shark! Leave reality behind and go on a 60-minute magical journey as puppetry, shadows, illusion and especially composed music combine to create a show with something for all ages.
It's inventive, visually and verbally witty, with a big heart plus a sprinkling of improvisation that makes each performance unique to its audience.
Steve Tiplady was artistic director at the Little Angel Theatre where he directed ten shows including Jabberwocky and The Mouse Queen which had a run at the New Victories Theatre on Broadway.
As a puppet director he has worked at the RSC on nine shows including Venus and Adonis and Midsummer Night's Dream (directed by Greg Doran), National Theatre of Wales: The Dark Philosophers, National Theatre of Scotland: Menage a Trois as well as Loves Labours Lost and Dr. Faustus for The Globe Theatre, and the Mighty Boosh.
Suitable for everyone aged 4 and upwards, Pinocchio is on at the Rose Theatre from Thursday 2 – Sunday 5 August. Tickets are £8 - £12 and available from rosetheatrekingston.org (bkg fee), 08444 821 556 (bkg fee) and over the counter in the Rose Theatre Box Office.
