The Pleasance Theatre presents a new production of MOON RIVER, written by Seiriol Davies and directed by Caroline Horton, from tonight, May 22nd through June 2nd.

Moon River tells the story of 87-year old Glad as she struggles to make a home in the alien surroundings of the Silver Street Centre, a care home for the elderly in leafy Chingford. How can she fight for territory from the insufferable day visitor Home Service Sandy? How can she find her feet when the ground keeps collapsing beneath her? What is she doing here anyway? She's clearly the only sane one.

The 2012 production of Moon River is to be Directed by Caroline Horton. (Winner of the 2010 The Stage Award - Best Solo Performer for You're Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy) and underscored by an immersive sound design by Fred Defaye (Punchdrunk, The People Show).

Moon River’s notable cast ranges in age from 25 - 75; however, all will be portraying characters upward of 65. The audience will be able to see in their bodies each actor's different relationship with the old age that awaits them, and the physical transformations that are to come.

Moon River is a fearless examination of old age in contemporary Britain, and is the first full-length play from Seiriol Davies, who also works widely as a performer, deviser and composer (Gideon Reeling, You Need Me, Punchdrunk, Underbling & Vow).

It was grown from a core of verbatim text gathered from the elders of Hackney, Brent and Chingford, and was developed at the Soho Theatre with assistance from the Trafalgar Studios and workshopped by accomplished devisers including Victoria Gould (Complicite) Natalie Casey (Well - Apollo Theatre, Abigail's Party - Menier Chocolate Factory, Legally Blonde - Savoy Theatre) and Eve Leigh (Well - Apollo Theatre / Trafalgar Studios).
