"Yaël Farber's mesmerising five star production of The Crucible is one of the most successful and most acclaimed in The Old Vic's history. We are excited to finally be sharing one of the theatrical events of a decade with audiences across the country, thanks to our friends at DigitalTheatre.com and CinemaLive. Arthur Miller's chilling, powerful and legendary work is truly a play for our times."

John Richardson, Producer, The Old Vic

"We are thrilled to be working in partnership with The Old Vic for the first time, taking their celebrated, five star production of The Crucible to cinemas nationwide. Digital Theatre.com continues to extend the reach of the best of British theatre, building new audiences and giving every viewer a 'best seat in the house' experience". Tom Shaw, Executive Producer, DigitalTheatre.com

"CinemaLive are delighted to continue their successful partnership with Digital Theatre, to distribute this year's 'must-see' theatre event to cinemas across the country, reaching thousands of people over two nights, who otherwise would not have had the chance to see this sold-out production. Digital Theatre's superbly crafted productions ensure that the cinema environment is the best place to see and hear this fantastic play, where Richard Armitage's performance will surely go down in history as one of London theatre's best" Peter Skillman, CEO and Co-Director, CinemaLive

Richard Armitage (who will be continuing his role as Thorin Oakenshield in 'The Hobbit', in cinemas in December) excels as John Proctor in Arthur Miller's classic American drama brought vividly to life in this visceral production by internationally acclaimed director Yaël Farber (Mies Julie; Nirbhaya).

In a small tight-knit community, personal grievances collide with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria. Miller's timeless parable attacks the evils of mindless persecution and the terrifying power of false accusations.

This production was part of a season of work at The Old Vic supported by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, PwC and The Old Vic in the round Sponsor, CQS.

About The Old Vic

To us, great theatre is about great plays, great performances and great nights out from the moment you step through the door. Currently under the artistic leadership of Kevin Spacey, we continue to attract the best creative talent in the industry.

The Old Vic has survived and in recent years thrived because it has always reached out to the widest range of audiences without compromising artistic standards. Although it has attracted great actors, it has never believed that theatre itself is for an elite. We believe theatre should be for everyone. The Old Vic has been a landmark for nearly 200 years. It's one of London's oldest working theatres and has provided a dramatic home for an extraordinary roll call of actors. Visit oldvictheatre.com
