The New Red Lion Celebrates First Birthday October 20

The New Red Lion is set to celebrate its FIRST birthday on Thursday 20th October 2011.

The New Red Lion, situated on City Road, Islington, opened in October 2010 by Damien Devine, proprietor and Managing Director of Red Lion Theatres. For over 30 years the Old Red Lion has played host to some of Britain's most exciting theatrical talent and the New Red Lion was opened as a complimentary space, programming comedy in all its forms- from plays to stand-up.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) is celebrating its 30th week and is set to continue until the end of January 2012. This completely new production, adapted from the Reduced Shakespeare Company's original show, has been nominated for BEST ENTERTAINMENT in the OffWestEnd Awards 2012 and continues to play to sold-out houses.

Kissing Sid James, a co-production between Cracking Up Productions and Red Lion Theatres, was only the second show in the venues history. The show was was critically acclaimed and is set to transfer to New York this Christmas as part of the BritsOffBroadway festival at 59E59 Theatre.
The New Red Lion has hosted some wonderful comedians including Richard Herring, Imran Yusuf, Isy Suttie and Tim Key as well as residencies with sketch groups Totally Tom and Pappy's. The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society and Festival of the Spoken Nerd have provided some regular, left-field comedy nights as long-stays of the New Red Lion.
