The NEW DIORAMA THEATRE, working with emerging theatre company PIT, will open their first in-house theatre show and world premiere of THE DARK ROOM, in April.
THE DARK ROOM, inspired by Brecht’s THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI (with shades of American teen classic MEAN GIRLS), transplants the dark world of underground gangsters into a modern secondary school. Replacing placards for projections and Kurt Weil’s music for a loud pub band, this piece follows new girl Ruth as she blackmails and seduces her way to the top of her schools social ladder.
PIT has previously won the Writers’ Guild and List Magazine Awards for Drama. Their last show A STROKE OF GENIUS was presented as part of Arts Council England’s Edinburgh showcase and received the Charlie Hartill Special Reserve for emerging theatre makers.
NEW DIORAMA THEATRE is a new venue in the heart of London dedicated to providing a home for both emerging and established theatre companies. In 2010 The New Diorama won a Peter Brook Award for “establishing a London home for ensemble companies” and in 2011 they won another Peter Brook Award specifically to support their recent ambitious season with Faction Theatre Company.
THE DARK ROOM runs 10th-28th April at 7:30pm. There are no shows 15th & 16th 22nd & 23rd. The New Diorama Theatre is located at 15 - 16 Triton Street, Regents Place, London, NW1 3BF. For more information call +44 (0)207 383 9034 or visit http://www.newdiorama.com.
