The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, Welcomes A Major New Production Of Terence Rattigan's THE WINSLOW BOY Image

The classic family drama stars Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools And Horses), Aden Gillen (House Of Eliott, Holby City), and Timothy Watson (BBC Radio 4's The Archers).

Set in the Edwardian era, and based on a real-life case, the play tells the story of the Winslow family's fight for justice for youngest son Ronnie, who is expelled from naval college after being accused of stealing a five-shilling postal order. The family must fight to clear his name or face social ostracism, as the case becomes a national scandal. Aden Gillen and Tessa Peake-Jones play Arthur and Grace Winslow, the parents forced to fight to protect their family, while Timothy Watson is the ambitious lawyer who takes on their case.

Tess Peake-Jones is best known for her long-running role as Raquel, in the much-loved sitcom Only Fools And Horses. She has had a regular role in Grantchester since 2014. Aden Gillett has appeared in a wide variety of television roles, most notably as Jack Maddox in The House Of Eliott. He also appeared in a different role in the 1999 film adaptation of The Winslow Boy.

Timothy Watson played the role of Rob Titchener in BBC Radio 4's The Archers. The storyline focussing on Rob's controlling behaviour towards his partner Helen Archer was hailed as a landmark depiction of domestic abuse. Timothy has also appeared in the TV drama Mr Selfridge, and worked for the National Theatre.

Widely regarded as Terence Rattigan's best play, this is a gripping masterpiece that is engrossing for Rattigan lovers or newcomers alike. It's produced by the same team as the highly-acclaimed recent production of Alan Bennett's Single Spies, and also has the same director - the Olivier Award nominee Rachel Kavanaugh.

The Winslow Boy is at The Marlowe Theatre from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 May, with performances at 2.30pm (Thursday and Saturday) and 7.30pm. Tickets, priced from £19.75 to £35.25 (concessions available) are from the Box Office on 01227 787787, and marlowetheatre.com. See the website for details of accessible performances.
