PRESS NIGHT: MONDAY, 7TH NOVEMBER 2011 AT 7.45PM

A classic tale of twisted love, dangerous lies and sexual obsession reimagined in an evocative new production from JMK Award winning director Michael Oakley opens at Southwark Playhouse for a four week run on 7 November 2011 with previews from 3 November 2011.

The beautiful Beatrice-Joanna has fallen in love with Alsemero - there is just one problem - she is already engaged to Alonzo. Blinded by desire, she desperately seeks a way out of the engagement and finds it in the unlikely shape of her disfigured servant De Flores. Little does Beatrice-Joanna know how far De Flores will go to help her.

First seen in 1622, Middleton and Rowley's play explores the destructive nature of sexual obsession. Transcending social divides and overturning prejudice, it is a warped and moving love story that tracks the process of desire possessing the body and mind.

Director Michael Oakley was the winner of the prestigious JMK Young Director Award in 2008. He subsequently directed Edward II (BAC). He was Trainee Director in Residence at Chichester Festival Theatre and most recently Associate Director on Trevor Nunn's production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead in the West End.

Designer Fotini Dimou's credits include Julius Caesar, The Crucible, The Duchess of Malfi (Royal Shakespeare Company). As Costume Designer, Gethsemane, Therese Raquin, The Seagull (National Theatre). Other credits include Sore Throats, Road, The Queen and I (Royal Court), Creditors (Donmar Warehouse, BAM) and The Girl with a Pearl Earring (Theatre Royal Haymarket).

Sound Designer and Composer James Flockton trained at Central School of Speech and Drama. His recent credits include Sound Design for Fewer Emergencies (The Print Room), Korzack (Rose Theatre, Kingston). He did Production Sound for Loyalty (Hampstead Theatre) and Mort the Musical (Greenwich Theatre).
