There's a giant flesh-eating plant coming to Coventry in Little Shop of Horrors, which is set to visit the Belgrade Theatre on a UK tour this October! X Factor's Rhydian leads the cast in this '50s sci-fi spoof musical taking to the Belgrade's Main Stage.
Down and out florist assistant Seymour becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a macabre craving. Secretly in love with his colleague Audrey he names the plant Audrey II in her honour. Audrey II has plans that are far greater than Seymour can imagine as it grows into a bad-tempered, foul-mouthed carnivore who offers fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite.
X Factor star RhydIan Roberts, whose previous stage credits include We Will Rock You, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show, will play sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello. Joining him on stage is West End star Sam Lupton (Wicked) in the role of Seymour. Also taking to the stage is Stephanie Clift as Audrey, who audiences may recognise as the star of West End musical Mamma Mia! and the Belgrade's 2015 musical Crush!
Completing the cast is Paul Kissaun (Calamity Jane) as Mushnik, Sasha Latoya (Rent) as Crystal, Vanessa Fisher (Hairspray) as Chiffon, Cassie Clare (Cats) as Ronnette and Josh Wilmott (Spamalot) as Audrey II. The cast also includes Phil Adele, Stephanie McConville and Neil Nicholas.
Little Shop of Horrors originally opened Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 before moving to the Orpheum Theatre Off-Broadway later that year, where it ran for five years and won numerous awards including the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. It opened in the West End the following year, and in 1986 was adapted into the now iconic cult film starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin.
