After originally playing The Hampstead Theatre in 1991, Terry Johnson's IMAGINE DROWNING is back on stage. The emerging Waxwing Theatre offers this opportunity at the Rosemary Branch Theatre this autumn.

A winner of the John Whiting Award (renamed the Peter Wolff Trust Supports the John Whiting Award in 2007), the play weaves together two different timelines a few weeks apart. David needs a scoop to revive his journalistic career. He is close to unearthing something big at Sellafield but suddenly disappears. Is he out of his depth?

When his wife sets out to find him two weeks later, she stays at the same dilapidated B&B and encounters a forgetful landlady, an ex-astronaut beach bum, a wheel-chair bound activist, a foulmouthed parrot and a severed head. Each holds a secret and the clues to her husband's whereabouts.

IMAGINE DROWNING stars Stephanie Goodfellow, Tom Harris, Joanne Hildon, Simon Norbury, John Shortell and Joerg Stadler. The creative team is helmed by Ed Bartram as director. Bettina Strickler choreographs. The technical team includes set designer Naomi Taylor and sound designer Nina Welch.

"Strong performances, exceptional direction and a creative technical team have worked together with great success. A must-watch!" says Jafar Iqbal of www.extraextra.com. Charlie Glass of the London Review Online says this is an "excellent production of a work by a brilliant playwright early in his career, acted by young players of talent, [and] is worth a trip to Islington, a drink in the pub downstairs and a walk up a flight of stairs. The West End should offer as much."

Terry Johnson is one of the UK's leading playwrights whose work includes HYSTERIA, HITCHCOCK BLONDE and DEAD FUNNY. Waxwing Theatre offers the opportunity to rediscover his first award-winning play in an evening of dark and bilious comedy, mystery and suspense.

Waxwing Theatre is an exciting, young London-based theatre company that specialises in new revivals of neglected masterpieces. Their production of IMAGINE DROWNING follows their acclaimed production of Martin Crimp's NO-ONE SEES THE VIDEO at the Rosemary Branch Theatre last year.
