Young writer Tamar Broadbent (book, music and lyrics) presents PIERCED, a fresh take on coming-of-age with an original score that powerfully represents the voice of the 21st Century 18-year-old. Pierced is a comic but touching portrayal of youth today, with all its idealism, ambition and awkward comedy, Monday 16th April, 1pm (1h) and 7pm (2h30) at The Landor Theatre, 70 Landor Road, Clapham North, SW9 9PH.
It follows the stories of five teenagers in the summer after finishing school, as they cope with obsessive crushes, divorcing parents, dreams of winning the X Factor and the thrall of advanced Facebook stalking.
Pierced channels the voice of youth today: it is an insightful reflection of the social life and identity of a generation. Broadbent’s laugh-out-loud musical enjoyed a critically acclaimed preliminary run in Bristol, June 2011.
At the age of 12, Broadbent began her career in composing. Her first song ‘Lucy’ received an honorary mention in the UK Songwriting Contest (2004). As well as being a singer/songwriter, Broadbent has a long history as an actress and musical theatre performer, and is an accomplished classical and jazz pianist. She wrote Pierced last summer, whilst studying for her finals in BA English at the University of Bristol. Now an MA Music Theatre student at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Broadbent has teamed up with director Drew Baker (Children of Eden, Prince of Wales) to workshop Pierced for a run on the London Fringe later this year.
The cast includes: Dougie Carter. Rosanna Colclough. Sam Hallion. Lauren Austin. Liam Ross Mills.
